The Manteca Buffaloes just missed out on an opportunity to close out the Valley Oak League season with a .500 mark, falling to Kimball High 215-225 Thursday in the league ending match for both clubs at Old River Golf Course in Tracy.

Manteca (6-8) got a solid round from Justin Morrish who turned in a 43. Davey Tolbert came in behind him with a 44, while both Brandon Ramirez and Tim Baker shot 45s.

“We played a solid team match where the scores were good despite very windy conditions,” Manteca head coach David Fontanilla said. “We are playing consistent all the way through our lineup and this will be good for us going into the league tournament.”

Ray Tinnin was the Buffaloes’ throw out score with a 48.

Kimball’s Brett Williams turned in a medalist honors earning round of 42.

The Buffaloes next action will be Tuesday at the VOL Tournament at Diablo Grande.

East Union 206, Weston Ranch 282

The Lancers closed out the VOL schedule with a comfortable win over the Weston Ranch Cougars Thursday at Manteca Golf Course.

Will Brink turned in a 2-under-par round of 35, while Jordan Duvall (39), Evan Lewis (43), Zach Couch (43), and Lane Cheatham (46) rounded out the scorecard. Weston Ranch’s low round score was a 55.

East Union (13-1) will try and secure the VOL championship with a strong team finish in the league tournament Tuesday at Diablo Grande.

“I feel pretty good, I think we have a good chance because it is a tough course,” EU head coach Dennis Wells said. “Today’s score wasn’t a great score, but with the wind conditions it wasn’t too bad.

“We are right where we wanted to be at to win a VOL championship.”
