TURLOCK – Ripon took the consolation championship of the Godinez Tournament on Saturday with a 67-57 win over Franklin of Stockton.

The Indians (3-3) were in solid control until the closing minutes when the Yellowjackets cut a 20-point deficit in half, but Franklin could not close the gap. 

Troy Brogan led Ripon with 21 points followed closely by Vincent Olmo with 20. All-tournament selection Kyle Sisk added nine points. 

Golden Valley of Merced 62, East Union 38

The Cougars outscored the Lancers (2-4) 23-7 in the third quarter.

“Turnovers were a big problem,” East Union coach Ryan Tarr said. “We just kept giving them extra possessions.”

Blake Greenlee led the Lancers with 11 points followed by Jay Gakhal with nine and Jojo Espinosa with five.

The tournament-host Mustangs jumped out to a 33-16 halftime lead before coasting to the win.

Andrew Vander Weide led the Knights (4-3) and Jacob Van Groningen added eight points. 

Adison Cramer of Argonaut (5-2) led all scorers with 27 points.

Elliot Christian of Modesto 73, Sierra 60

Ryan Borgeson and Jamie Ochoa had 16 points apiece for the poor-shooting Timberwolves (2-4).

“We had good looks,” Sierra coach Scott Thomason said. “But we only shot 32 percent from the field.”
