Lathrop’s Porter, Hurtado-Garcia are winter sports MVPs in WAC

 Lathrop High’s girls basketball and boys soccer teams enjoyed their best seasons this past winter and were rewarded with postseason honors.

Fourth-year senior Shakara Porter has been named girls basketball MVP in the Western Athletic Conference, and Dwayne Davis is Coach of the Year after leading the Spartans (14-0, 33-2 overall) to the CIF State Division IV Northern Regional final.

Eduardo Torres earned Defensive Player of the Year.

Lathrop’s boys basketball team (11-3, 18-11) has three All-WAC first-team selections, and girls soccer (1-11-2, 2-17-3) has one.

Porter anchored Lathrop’s dominant run with her all-around play. She averaged 10.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 2.9 assists in 14 conference games. The 5-foot-8 forward is a four-time all-conference selection — three on the first team, and one on the second. She’s also the only area player named to the MaxPreps All-Sac-Joaquin Section First Team, finishing with averages of 11.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 1.9 assists overall.

Junior guard Jaleiyah Ray (12.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 steals) and freshman center Breanna Wiseman (13.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 1.4 blocks) join Porter on the All-WAC first team. Wiseman also made the MaxPreps All-SJS Second Team.

Freshman guards Jaylah Seabron (4.1 points, 1.8 assists, 2.1 steals) and Aisha Wiseman (2.5 points, 2.4 assists, 2.4 steals) are on the all-conference second team. Audrina Fisher and Belinda Renteria earned honorable mention.

Hurtado-Garcia broke out as one of the top scoring contributors in the state for the Lathrop boys soccer team. He amassed 30 goals and 21 assists for 81 points, which are third most in the SJS and 12th most in the state. In conference games, he netted 18 goals and 12 assists and recorded two hat tricks in 14 appearances.

He and Torres are both multi-year all-conference selections. Torres was instrumental not just in defense, with 52 steals in WAC games, but also in buildup and the attack (two goals, two assists).

Senior forward Alan Hernandez (10 goals, six assists) is also back on the All-WAC team after he was Offensive Player of the Year in 2025. Senior midfielders Omar Rodriguez (two goals, two assists, 65 steals) and Carlos Santos (two goals, 48 steals) round out the Spartans’ first-team players.

Junior defender Johnathan Martinez senior defender Walter Villareal made the second team.

First-team selections for boys basketball were junior guard Bryan Gamboa (13.7 points, 1.5 steals), sophomore Nicolas Arceo (12.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 3.2 steals) and senior forward Justin Neal (8.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.3 steals). Karambir Bisla and Elijah McAllister received honorable mention.

Fourth-year varsity defender Janeese Romo (goal, assist) was Lathrop’s lone first-team honoree for girls soccer. Senior midfielder Angelique Gonzalez was named to the second team.

Other major award winners: boys basketball Co-MVPs James McGee (Beyer) and Ivan Martinez (Johansen), boys basketball Coach of the Year Chris Salazar (Johansen), girls basketball Most Outstanding Player Nikki Nance (Pacheco), boys soccer Offensive Player of the Year Alejandro Avila (Livingston), boys soccer Goalkeeper of the Year (Central Valley), girls soccer MVP Ashley Juarez (Central Valley), girls soccer Defensive Player of the Year Brisa Daley (Beyer), girls soccer Offensive Player of the Year Aaralyn Jauregui (Central Valley) and girls soccer Goalkeeper of the Year Abrianna Brown (Grace Davis).
