Lathrop junior Kiana Quintero repeated as Western Athletic Conference champion after winning the 122-pound bracket of the league tournament this past Saturday at Beyer High of Modesto.

Sophomore Laila Hill also claimed an individual title, and the Spartans have five females headed to the Sac-Joaquin Section North Regional Tournament.

Damien Ceja-Ramirez was the top Lathrop male grappler, as he finished as the 159-pound runner-up. He’s one of seven Spartans to place in the top four and qualify for the SJS Division IV Tournament.

Quintero outpointed Johansen’s Jazmin Kumler 10-5 in the 122-pound girls final, while Hill pinned Beyer’s Emely Garcia in 1 minute, 5 seconds for the 235-pound crown.

Thienny Pham (147) and Kimberly Salazar (142) both took second in their weight classes, and freshman Jade Preciado (157) came in third.

Ceja-Ramirez was pinned by Beyer’s Cristian Ariza in 5:42 in the 159-pound boys championship. He’s the only Lathrop boys wrestler to advance to the finals.

Andrew Chunn (128), Malachi Gonzalez (140), Casyn Hopping (217), Lauro Lupian (177) and Daniel Narvaez (108) all finished in third place. Adrian Howard took fourth at 134 pounds.

The SJS North Regional girls tourney takes place this Friday and Saturday at Foothill High of Sacramento, while the SJS Division IV boys meet is on Saturday at Cordova High.

Wrestlers from both sites are vying for spots in the SJS Masters Tournament set for Feb. 16-17 at Stockton Arena.
