Manteca bounces back from Buff Cup losses

Manteca’s boys soccer team did not wait long to rebound from its tough showing in its own Buffalo Cup tournament.

Five different goal scorers found the net on Monday, and the Buffaloes routed Gustine 5-1 at Guss Schmeidt Field. They lost their final two contests of the tournament Saturday, including a 3-2 setback against West in the third-place match.

“We struggled a little bit in the second half of the Buff Cup, but tonight we came back and really made a statement,” Manteca coach Daniel Guevara said. “We were able to maintain possession on their side of the field. It was a really big turnaround from where it was on Saturday.”

Harshawn Singh, Juan Cuenca, Alexis Lopez, Steven Aguilar and Brian Sanchez accounted for Manteca’s goals. Goalie Matsua Garcia-Mendez picked up five saves.

Manteca (3-2) resumes its busy nonleague schedule today at Sonora.

“I like that we’re playing a lot of games,” Guevara said. “I have 22 players on the roster and everybody has been playing. I’d say we have about 10 different goal scorers already.”
