Manteca ends 1st half of VOL with shutout in Oakdale

OAKDALE — Manteca wrapped up the first half of Valley Oak League play with a resounding 9-0 drubbing of Oakdale on Thursday, marking the fifth straight match that the Buffaloes have shut out an opponent.
Manteca (7-0 VOL, 9-1 overall), which is also on a nine-match winning streak, had little resistance from the third-place Mustangs.
Julia Tang routed Lijian Bucad 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Koryn Menasco (6-0, 6-4), Taylor Corona (6-1, 6-0), Makenna Condit (6-0, 6-1), Sahiba Kaur (6-1, 6-0) and Stephania Mercado (6-0, 6-0) tallied the rest of the Buffaloes’ singles points.
Ravneet Dhillon and Navina Mann rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory in doubles. Julianne Eavenson and Kaileah Johannson won 6-0, 6-3, while Melissa Poncini and Noeli Mercado prevailed, 6-1, 6-1.

STOCKTON — The Spartans grinded out well-contested matches to improve to 3-4.
Lathrop No. 5 Beatrice Vilches warded off Angelee Rivera 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. In another three-set finish, the No. 1 doubles team of Erica Garlit and Leslie Barraza defeated Ekam Kaur and Jella Batac, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.
Weston Ranch’s lone point came from No. 3 singles Justice Stitt, who outlasted Kim Victoria 1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Other winners for Lathrop were Angela Alegado (6-1, 6-1), Tala Alkhatib (7-6, 6-1), Darlene Hoang (6-1, 6-3), Bernice Vilches (6-2, 6-3), Marissa Bristeno/Harman Garcha (6-4, 6-1) and Tammy Pham/Kim Bareng (6-4, 7-4).

MODESTO — East Union’s No. 2 doubles tandem of Hailey Gosney and Nadia Cardona dispatched Central Catholic’s Mary Lehman and Maya Armendariz, 6-1, 7-5. 
The Lancers’ other point came from No. 3 singles Angel Volk, whose opponent retired after Volk built an early 3-2 lead.
Julia and Giana Telles were competitive in a 5-7, 3-6 defeat at No. 3 doubles.
