Manteca senior Yok Jing Ma is a three-time doubles champion in the Valley Oak League. His career ended with a runner-up finish in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II Individual Tournament in Roseville on Tuesday.

The decorated careers of Mike Lopez and Yok Jing Ma came to an end Tuesday in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II Individual Tournament.

The senior tandem from Manteca High reached the final round of the doubles tournament at Johnson Racquet Club in Roseville and lost to top-seeded Jack Lonergan and Sarthak Saxena of Rio Americano, 2-6, 2-6. Earlier Tuesday, Lopez and Ma, seeded second, topped No. 3 Jovan Gojkovich and Cody Blanford of Bella Vista, 7-6 (5), 6-4.

“The guys played well and we thought we were ready for the final, but the top seed from Rio Americano were just too good,” Manteca coach Frank Fontana said. That team played amazing and just did everything a little better in that one match.

“Overall, the guys should be proud of their effort this season and their four-year career at Manteca High. They represented our school very well.”

Last week, Longergan and Saxena helped Rio Americano claim the Division II team championship, the school’s section-leading 13th overall. Manteca lost to Ceres 5-4 in the Division III team final.

Lopez and Ma are Manteca’s third doubles partners to play for a section title, following Greg Toy and Jody Ruble (1980), and Yassen Aniss and Arnie Morales (2009). Ma is a three-time Valley Oak League doubles champion and one-time singles finalist. Lopez reached the VOL singles final as a freshman and captured back-to-back league titles in doubles.
