The Manteca area was shut out of the Cal-Hi Sports postseason baseball honors, but two standouts were recognized by MaxPreps on Wednesday.
Four-year varsity center fielders Dominick Pisano and Ryan Vasquez were named to the MaxPreps 2015 California Medium Schools All-State second team.
Only four other players from the Sac-Joaquin Section are listed: Rio Americano infielder Kody Gardner is on the first team, while Sacramento catcher Caden Voges, Yuba City first baseman Taylor Doyle and Yuba City utility player Caden Goldby join Pisano and Vasquez on the second team.
Doyle and Goldby helped the Honkers eliminate Vasquez and Sierra in the semifinal round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs. Yuba City ended up winning the title.
Vasquez, however, was part of Sierra’s historic run to the Valley Oak League crown, the program’s first since 2001. It also completed the school’s sweep of the league’s football, basketball and baseball championships. Vasquez batted .357, plated 22 runs and drove in 16 and was also the Timberwolves’ top relief pitcher (1.21 ERA, four saves).
Pisano aided Manteca’s charge to four straight postseason berths including a Division IV championship in 2014. He finished his senior campaign with a .398 average, .533 on-base percentage, 26 runs, 28 RBIs and 10 doubles.
