Ripon bats go silent in loss to Hughson

RIPON – The Trans Valley League season could have opened with better results, nonetheless, the Ripon Indians are going to have to rebound after a disheartening 7-1 loss to the Hughson Huskies Thursday.

Defensive miscues played a prominent role in the Huskies plating their seven runs, with only two of the runs scored being earned. Ripon pitcher Kirsten Mortimer scattered eight Hughson hits, but three errors plagued an otherwise solid performance from Mortimer.

Mortimer also did her job at the plate, going 2 for 3 with the Indians’ only two hits of the game. One of the hits was a solo-shot, driving in the lone Ripon run of the contest and spotting Ripon with a 1-0 second inning lead.
Hughson would respond with a monstrous five-run fifth inning, capping the scoring with two more in the top-half of the seventh.

Ripon (0-1 TVL, 2-1 overall) will roll out the welcome mats for Valley Oak League newcomer Lathrop High at 3:30 p.m.
