East Union’s boys soccer team scored three goals in the first half en route to a 3-1 Valley Oak League win over Manteca at Woodward Park on Tuesday.
Julien Guzman opened the outburst in the 10th minute with his third goal in two matches, while Angel Guzman and Gio Perez each tallied a goal and an assist. Adrian Vivanco assisted Perez’s tally in the final minute of the half.
“East Union is well-coached, talented and deep, and all three came together for them in the first 40 minutes,” Manteca coach James Burns said.
Kevin Verdin scored on a counter attack in the 78th minute for Manteca’s lone goal. Goalie Leo Garcia finished with seven saves.
The loss is the fifth in a row for the Buffaloes (0-2-0 VOL, 6-12-1 overall), who will look to get off the schneid Wednesday at Central Catholic (0-2, 1-12-1). East Union (2-0-0, 10-7-1) will welcome Oakdale (0-2-0, 3-8-1).
"This slide is a bit misleading,” Burns said. “We're playing well against quality opponents (Sierra, Weston Ranch, East Union twice), but still struggling to compete consistently all over the pitch for 80 minutes. I'm proud of the fight the boys have shown, though, and know their heart and effort will be rewarded soon."
