ROUNDUP: Freshman provides midseason spark for Lathrop girls basketball

A recent freshman addition may be the spark Lathrop’s girls basketball team needs to get past its recent struggles.

Playing in her second game of the season Tuesday, Jaleiyah Ray netted 13 points, four rebounds and two steals in the Spartans’ 55-28 thrashing of visiting Pacheco.

Lathrop (6-3, 16-8 overall) dropped three of its previous four Western Athletic Conference games and beat Pacheco by six in their first showdown. The Spartans surged to a 14-7 first-quarter lead and blew it open from there.

“We jumped out pretty well and the ball was moving around,” Davis said. “(Ray) shares the ball, which is something we’ve been lacking. And she cuts and moves very, very hard, so that sets up a lot of space for others.”

Madilynn Nungaray, also a freshman, finished with 10 points. Shakara Porter added 10 points and eight rebounds. Rianna Dela Cruz and Tatiana Lowery scored seven apiece.

Lathrop heads to Grace Davis on Thursday.

 

Livingston 37, Ripon 29

Leading by two after three quarters, the visiting Indians (1-6, 7-14 overall) were outscored 13-3 in the fourth.

Ripon has dropped six straight since opening the Trans-Valley League schedule with a 31-28 win over Livingston.

Isabella Zazueta amassed 24 points and knocked down four of her six 3s in the fourth quarter. Kailee Inderbitzin paced Ripon with 18 points and six rebounds.

 

Hughson 41, Ripon Christian 35

Visiting Ripon Christian (3-4, 11-9) trailed 11-5 after the opening quarter and stayed competitive from there against the TVL co-leading Huskies (6-1, 15-7).

Maddie Yonker tallied 18 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and two blocks for the Knights. Reagan Vander Hoek registered four points, 10 boards and three steals.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Ripon Christian 6, Mariposa 0

Drew Meester struck in the 14th, 24th and 42nd minutes for a hat trick, as the host Knights (3-4-2, 6-10-3 overall) took care of business in Southern Athletic League action against winless Mariposa (0-9, 0-9-1).

Danny Lambdin and Ricky Van Unen had three and two assists respectively. Aaron Van Hofwegan broke the scoreless tie in the 13th minute. Trevor Van Elderen and Noah DeBruyn each contributed a goal.

Defenders Joel Hendricks, Lushen Sanders and Van Elderen preserved the shutout, not allowing a shot on goal against goalies

The Knights dominated from start to finish beating Mariposa 6-0. Drew Meester had a hat trick for the Knights and Danny Lambdin had 3 assists and Ricky Van Unen also had two assists.  The back line of Trevor Van Elderen, Joel Hendricks, and Lushen Sanders preserved the clean sheet for the Knights an not allow a shot on goal against keepers David Koohaas and Wesley Vander Woude.

 

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Ripon 8, Hughson 0

Katie Martin and Danielle Rey buried two goals apiece, while Kaitlyn Espinola contributed a pair of assists for the visiting Indians (6-0 YVL, 11-7-1 overall)

Rylee Agbayani, Alex Iniguez, Emily Paxton and Olivia Maragos chipped in a goal apiece.

Ripon had an overwhelming 34-4 advantage in shot attempts.

 

Ripon Christian 11, Mariposa 0

Alanna Blacco and Tatum Sonke both rung up hat tricks in the Southern Athletic League home win for the Knights (7-1-1, 15-3-1 overall)

Addison DeJong, Anneka Dyt, Brooke Barnes, Dayna Koolhaas, and Jeanne Oosterman each had one goal.

Dayna Koolhaas contributed two assists.

The Ripon Christian Lady Knights defeated visiting Mariposa County 11-0 Tuesday night. Both Tatum Sonke and Alanna Blanco recorded hat tricks, while Koolhaas provided two of the assists, while Barnes and Oosterman both provided one. The Lady Knights travel to Delhi on Thursday for their second matchup of the season.

 

JV girls basketball

Lathrop 43, Pacheco 12

Tatianna Lopez spearheaded the Spartans’ dominant effort with 11 points and five steals.

Erin Chunn contributed nine points, six steals and three rebounds. Jocelyn Rios racked up 10 rebounds to go with four points.

 

JV girls soccer

Ripon 5, Hughson 0

Ashley Campos scored twice for TVL-leading Ripon (6-0, 20-1-1 overall).

Payton Abbott, Claire Genasci and Alexis Zamora each found the back of the net once. Taylen Dayak contributed two assists, and Katie Van Gorkom had one.

 

Frosh girls basketball

Lathrop 48, Pacheco 9

The Spartans move to 6-2 in the WAC with the lopsided victory led by Hazel Beltran’s 12 points.

Taylor Rios scored 11 points, and Aniya McGriff had nine.
