ROUNDUP: Lathrop softball blanks Sierra, improves to 5-0

 Lathrop’s softball team continued its best start in program history Monday with a 10-0 non-league win over visiting Sierra in six innings.

The now 5-0 Spartans rallied for five runs in the fifth inning and tacked on two more in the sixth to end it.

Maci De Costa and Ariana Fuentes combined for the three-hit shutout, pitching three innings apiece while allowing no walks. Fuentes fired seven strikeouts, while De Costta registered five. They were aided by some defensive highlights, including great catches in the outfield by Kira Davis and Tianna Gonzalez.

Luz De Luna (two doubles, two RBIs), Tatianna Lopez (two runs, two RBIs) and Kendall Stewart (two doubles, run, two RBIs) powered the offense, each going 2 for 4.

Lathrop returns to Western Athletic Conference play today at Pacheco, and Sierra starts the Valley Oak League season Thursday at home against East Union.


Manteca 8, Mountain House 0

The Buffaloes (6–2) busted out for seven runs in the first inning, and the pitchers took it from there.

Winning pitcher Isabel Tonna threw four innings, and Nayellys Torres struck out five over three innings in the combined five-hitter.

Jocelyn Baptist went 2 for 3 with a double, run and RBI. Maleiah Garza contributed a triple, a run and an RBI. Lauren Moncada drove in a pair of runs.


East Union 7, Hughson 3

Makayla Simpson amassed 12 strikeouts in a four-hitter for East Union (8-3). She also contributed offensively, hitting 2 for 4 with a double, a run and an RBI.

Lily Pickering pitched in a pair of doubles, Sienna Owen drove in three runs and Bella Cooper went 2 for 3 with three runs, a double and an RBI.


Lathrop 14, West 13

Carson Scott drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap off a wild comeback win for Lathrop (5-6), which overcame a whopping 12 errors and nine walks.

The Wolf Pack (4-4) from Tracy started the game with a five-run rally and led 9-2 after two innings. Lathrop battled back in the final two frames when it scored 11 runs.

Omare Cross spearheaded the attack, finishing 3 for 3 with a double, a triple, three runs, two steals and two RBIs. Jordan Blase (run) and Anthony Gallardo (double, two runs) both went 2 for 4 with three RBIs apiece.

Matthew Rankin wemt 2 for 3 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Chris Williams chipped in with a two-run double.

Lathrop used three pitchers with Blase getting the final two outs for the win. Rankin started, striking out five in 4 1/3 innings.

Manteca 3, Kimball 1

Reigning VOL co-champion Manteca (6-1) started its title defense with a hard-earned 25-21, 18-25, 25-19, 25-21 win over visiting Kimball.

Julio Mateo paced the attack with 12 kills, Jesus Gomez had 10, and Aydan Patton and Garrison Reis each contributed eight. Mark Bondoc orchestrated the offense and totaled 40 assists.

Cedrick Maglinao paced the defense with 14 digs. Manny Ramirez produced 20 service points and 11 digs.


BOYS GOLF

TVL Tournament No. 2

Ripon took care of business at Oakdale Golf and Country Club, turning in the first-place score of 4`7 behind low medalist Jeremie Little’s 78.

Hughson was the runner-up with a 453, and Livingston took third with a 487.

The top three individuals all came from Ripon. Marcus Atienza and Vincent Uecker both added 80s. Ty Herrin contributed with an 84, while Richie Hughes and Will Peters each carded a 95.


BOYS TENNIS

Mountain House 9, Lathrop 0

It was all Mountain House in the WAC match.

The No. 3 singles match was the most competitive, as Adam Godinez fell short against Xavi Gimeno, 1-6, 3-6.


JV softball

Sierra 30, Lathrop 2

It was a one-sided affair for the Timberwolves, who allowed only one hit.

Arielle Cooper got the hit for Lathrop, and outfielder Alina Ledezma caught three fly balls to highlight the defense.


JV boys volleyball

Manteca 2, Kimball 1

Dennin Loueiro pounded nine kills, and Logan Romriell added six to help the Buffaloes prevail, 26-28, 25-16, 15-8.

Hayden Silva anchored the offense with 21 assists. Alex Khiberan collected 13 digs.


River Islands 3, Vanguard College Prep 0

J.R. Payopay produced 12 kills last, and Landon Namayam led the defense with 16 digs as the Riptide rolled to the 25-19, 25-21, 25-8 win last Friday.

Nikhil Raj chimed in with seven service aces.
