ROUNDUP: Madoski’s double-double propels Ripon to West tourney win

Marcus Madoski was dominant in Ripon’s first-round contest at the West Winter Holiday Classic on Thursday.

The senior forward/center torched Kimball for 26 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks, as the Indians rolled to a 56-45 victory. Ripon (2-4) shot out to a 16-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and was able to ward off the Jaguars (2-6) from there.

Logan Lefebvre pitched in with 10 points, and Tanner Hickman had eight points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Gino Calderara added seven points and six boards.

Jaden Ryan netted 15 points for Kimball (2-4), and Tristen DeBenedetti had 11.

Ripon plays Kennedy (3-2) of Sacramento in a semifinal tonight at 7. Kennedy downed River Islands, 64-46.


East Union 55, Escalon 46 (OT)

The Lancers (4-5) escaped with the road win after outscoring Escalon (3-2) 11-2 in the extra period.

Lorenzo Jones poured in 19 points to lead East Union. Ricky Soria chimed in with 11 points, and Jackson Fay had seven.


GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bear River 53, Ripon 40

A 16-7 third quarter gave Bear River (4-2) the separation it needed in this Liberty Ranch Tournament opener.

Danika Escola paced Ripon (2-5) with 12 points. Scarlett Ponce and Leila Sanchez each had seven.

Bear River’s Taryn Cleek led all scorers with 14 points, hitting three of her four 3-pointers in the second half. The Bruins made nine from the beyond the arc.


Edison 56, Lathrop 31

Lathrop was routed in its first game of the Delta Queens Classic at Stagg.

Tati Lopez was a bright spot with 14 points and seven rebounds. Kira Davis and Abby Renteria each pulled down seven rebounds. The Spartans (2-5) were without standout forward Shakara Porter, who was out with a sickness.


BOYS SOCCER

Oakdale 4, Manteca 2

The Buffaloes (0-1, 1-8 overall) kicked off Valley Oak League play on the road, and a mistake-laden start helped Oakdale (1-0, 5-5) surge to an early three-goal lead.

They made things interesting after Kai Masudi and Prospect Afanyu each scored, but another miscue on the back line allowed the Mustangs to put away the insurance goal.

Manteca will look to bounce back today and Saturday when it hosts the Buff Cup at Woodward Park.


JV boys basketball

Sierra 55, Ripon Christian 43

Karanbir Bhandal spearheaded four Sierra players in double figures with 18 points, which include three 3s.

The Timberwolves (4-1) advance to the Venture Academy Tournament semifinal and takes on Christian Brothers today at 6:30.

Isaiah Revives racked up 14 points in their opening-round victory. Issac Kempf and Jordan Harrison fired 11 and 10, respectively.

Sierra 52 River Islands 38
The Timberwolves (5-4) downed the River Islands Tournament host and will face St. Mary’s in the semifinals tonight at 5:30. It will be their eighth game in 11 days.

Kiral Tran tallied a team-high 13 points, and Neithen Mannoor contributed eight off the bench. Ozias Siga added seven points and nine rebounds. Jack Taylor also had seven points.
