ROUNDUP: Manteca downs Sierra for first boys tennis win of season

After dropping its first two boys tennis matches of the Valley Oak League season, Manteca boys netted its first win on Thursday 6-3 at Sierra.

The Buffaloes prevailed in all six singles matches, getting an important victory from No. 5 player Michael Levchenko who held off Ashton Hillard, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.

“All the singles came out ready to go,” Manteca coach Frank Fontana said. “We’re not 100% there, but we are getting closer each day.”

In other singles matches: No. 1 Yok Chai Ma defeated Brady Alves 6-1, 6-1, No. 2 Emiliano Hurtado swept Hasnain Ali 6-1, 6-3, No. 3 Ivan Barajas outlasted David Martin 6-4, 7-5, No. 4 Michael Osanna took down Ian Trconic 6-2, 6-3 and Vincent Almeida won at No. 6 against Kyle Madrigal, 6-3, 6-1.

Sierra’s No. 1 doubles team of Sparsh Beedi and Matia Rajethman prevailed against Landon Butler and Declan Edwards, 7-5, 6-3. Max Prez and Oliver Naven won the No. 2 contest 6-1, 6-2 over Kevin Navarro-Mendoza and Harian Sepulveda. The No. 3 match was won by Santiago Franco and Zain Ali 6-1, 6-1 against Steven Sarmiento and Evan Jimenez.   

Manteca plays a make-up match with Kimball today at the Manteca Regional Tennis Center.

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Ripon 3, Denair 0

The Indians (11-6) took care of Denair (3-4) in a non-league match on the road, 25-14, 25-16, 25-11.

Leading the charge was setter Anthony Gomez with 23 assists and four kills and libero Marquell Marshall with 10 service aces and 22 digs.

Hunter Adams blasted 12 kills on 20 attacks. Jalen Wilson added four blocks and two aces, and Nathan Mosher chipped in six total blocks.

 

Lathrop 3, Pacheco 0

The Spartans (8-1, 14-4 overall) swept the Western Athletic Conference match in Los Banos, 25-16, 25-14, 25-17.

Gabriel Fa’ali’i produced seven kills and six digs, while Jerico Santillan had six kills, two blocks, three assists and nine digs. Christian Buerster contributed five kills and three total blocks. Marco Palomares served up five aces to go with three kills and two solo blocks.

Alexander Vere facilitated the offense with 22 assists. Libero Lucas Baluyut compiled 22 digs.

 

BOYS GOLF

Ripon Christian 184, Waterford n

Wyatt Hayes birdied two holes and finished with an even 31 at Jack Tone Golf Course. The victorious Knights won their second Southern Athletic League match, while Waterford did not field enough players to record a team score.

Trey Van Groningen followed with a 2-over 33. Carter Van Groningen (39), Ben Miller (40) and Lushen Sanders (41) also contributed to the score.

 

JV boys volleyball

Lathrop 2, Pacheco 0

Lathrop held on for the 25-20, 25-20 WAC sweep.

Ose Onoabahgbe led the attack with seven kills, and Persius Fa’ali’i posted four kills and six digs. Cameron Loyola had four overall blocks.

Jorge Reyes pitched in 14 assists, and Edmund Balugo turned in seven digs.
