ROUNDUP: Manteca evens VOL baseball series with Oakdale

 Manteca did all of its damage in the fourth inning, scoring four runs to beat visiting Oakdale 4-2 Wednesday and even the Valley Oak League series.

The rubber match is today in Oakdale.

Jace Quitasol highlighted the pivotal rally with an RBI double. Nick Garcia, Julian Oliveri and Rex Watson each drove in a run.

Manteca’s pitchers took it from there, as Oakdale (3-2 VOL, 11-3) could only muster a run in each of the fifth and seventh innings.

Freshman Jeremy Cross picked up the win for the Buffaloes (1-1, 11-2-1), tallying six strikeouts, five walks and two hits in four innings. Michael George threw 2 2/3 innings, and Jesse Bella got the final out.

Both teams were limited to four hits. Oakdale’s Trey Parsons took the loss.


Beyer 16, Lathrop 12

Visiting Beyer (3-2, 5-6 overall) wasted little time in breaking open this Western Athletic Conference clash, amassing nine runs in the first inning.

The Spartans (1-5, 6-9) trailed 10-0 after the second inning but rallied in the final four innings to stave off the mercy rule.

Adrian Zuniga roped a triple and drove in two runs for Lathrop, and Chris Williams went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Andrew Lopez, Mathew Rankin and Anthony Gallardo also plated two runs apiece.


Ripon Christian 3, Orestimba 2

Ripon Christian (5-1, 8-5 overall) was limited to two hits in the Southern Athletic League contest but drew nine walks.

David Koolhaas doubled for one of those Knights hits. Josh Buffalow knocked in a run. Luke Crivello, Ricky Van Unen and Dustin Hoekstra each scored one.

The Knights led 3-0 after five innings, and Orestimba (2-4, 2-12) scored both of its runs in the sixth.

Winning pitcher Hoekstra had nine strikeouts in five innings, spearheading a combined four hitter.


BOYS GOLF

VOL Tournament No. 2

Sierra (477) edged out Kimball (478) for third place at Creekside Golf Course in Modesto.

Oakdale (385) once again dominated and produced the top six individual scores headed by low medalist Nolan Harris’ 1-under 71.

Tourney host Central Catholic was runner-up with a 475. East Union got the tiebreaker (No. 6 scorers) over Manteca for fifth place after both netted a 487.

East Union’s Michael Pires and Ethan Freitas of Manteca were the top local individuals, as they finished tied for seventh with 85s.

Jorrdan Llamas Mojarro paced Sierra with a 91 and was followed by Carson Murray (93), JakeLlamas Mojarro (95), Cody Camarena (97) and Zak Willson (101).


WAC Preseason Tournament

Brayden Beckman carded an even 72 at Tracy Golf & Country Club, anchoring Lathrop’s team score of 536.

Jayden Wall added a 98 for the Spartans. Raphael Iniguez netted a 116, while Jared Isla and Ariyan Patel each had a 125.


BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Ripon 84, Hughson 52

Devin Fitzpatrick won both the mile and two-mile races while placing second in the 800 to help the Indians improve to 2-0 in the Trans-Valley League.

Marcus Madoski doubled in the high jump and triple jump. Xzavier Clark (100), Luke Bair (800), Brett Shaw (300 hurdles) and Eric Guevara (pole vault) each won one event.

Ripon also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.


GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Ripon 97, Hughson 39

Rylee Agbayani-Duenas blazed to first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 for the host Indians (2-0). Her 200 time of 27.19 seconds is a new personal record.

Starla Skiles won both hurdles races and was on the winning relays. Jenna Skavdahl took the 800 and 1,600. Clara Scholland won the 400 and shared the top spot in the high jump with teammate Jade Thommes.

Ellena Parenti won the long jump, and Madison Lopez won the triple jump.
