Manteca’s girls soccer team clinched at least a share of its second Valley Oak League championship in three years on Wednesday, overcoming the heavy gusts in Tracy while staving off Kimball, 3-1.
The Buffaloes (6-1-2, 21-1-3 overall) can secure the outright title with a win or a tie next Monday at Oakdale, which is responsible for handing them their lone defeat of the season.
With the wind to their back, the Buffs scored all three of their goals in the first half, getting two from Alexia Alva and the other from Kailee Jackson. Sienna Jones assisted one of Alva’s goals, and Serenity Ceritos delivered the corner-kick cross for Jackson’s.
Kimball (3-4-2, 7-11-2) is battling with Sierra and East Union for one of the final two Sac-Joaquin Section playoff spots. The Jaguars threatened to make a comeback while aided by the wind in the second half and scored early on.

Janessa Ward scored twice to give the visiting Spartans (6-2-3 Western Athletic Conference, 9-5-3 overall) the early lead, and Janessa Romo tacked on the third goal with a header.
