The Ripon Christian baseball team opened with a five-run flurry and kept the pressure on defending Trans Valley League champion Hughson on the way to a 10-4 road victory on Wednesday.
The Knights (3-0 TVL, 8-1 overall) never trailed after establishing the first-inning lead.
Jack Strickland helped power the offense with a triple, two runs and three RBIs.
He and fellow sophomores Trenton Cloward (RBI), Stadtler Postma (triple, two runs) and Talen Tameling (two runs, RBI) tagged two hits each. Tyler Wadlow pitched in a double, two runs and an RBI.
Postma was also the winning pitcher. He walked two and allowed one run in two hitless innings. Ethan Vander Plaats earned the save in long relief, recording four strikeouts over four innings.
Ripon Christian goes for the sweep Friday when the Huskies (1-2, 4-7) visit.
East Union 13, Gregori 7
Jackson Fay was busy on the basepaths for the Lancers (10-5), as he went 2 for 3 with a double, four runs and four stolen bases at Gregori (3-5).
The Lancers took the lead for good with six runs in the top of the second inning, surging ahead, 7-3. Brayden Camara (run, two RBIs) and Ryder Tompkins (run, RBI) also belted two hits apiece. Peyton Heath drove in three runs and plated another. Kirk Simoni hammered a double and scored once.
Efren Diaz pitched the first four innings to earn the win.
Enochs 4, Manteca 1
Brooks Opsahl slugged a three-run homer in the top of the first inning, and the lead held up for the visiting Eagles (4-5) in the non-league contest.
Manteca (9-4) has dropped four in a row after winning its first nine of the season. Brody Carabello drove in Devon Richardson in the fourth inning for the Buffaloes’ lone run.
Sophomore Jack Conner threw three innings and was one of three pitchers Enochs used in a combined four-hitter.
SOFTBALL
Lathrop 20, Pacheco 2 (5)
The Spartans (1-0, 4-2-1 overall) opened Western Athletic Conference play with a 14-hit offensive onslaught aided by 13 walks and five errors in Los Banos.
Tianna Gonzalez knocked in five runs, going 2 for 2 with a double, a triple and two runs. Avaihna Calderon finished 3 for 4 with a double, three runs and two RBIs.
Tatianna Lopez (double, two runs, three RBIs), Kendall Stewart (two runs, RBI), Luz De Luna (double, two runs, RBI) and Maci De Costa (double, RBI) contributed two hits apiece. Ja’Leiyah Ray drew five walks, stole four bases and plated three runs.
De Costa was the winning pitcher, striking out three while scattering seven hits.
Isabella Chavez went 3 for 4 with two runs and a double for Pacheco (0-1, 0-5).
