ROUNDUP: Ripon outlasts Livingston to take TVL volleyball lead

 Ripon’s boys volleyball team crossed another milestone off the list Thursday, edging out Livingston on the road, 16-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-27, 15-12.

It’s the Indians’ first win over the two-time defending Trans-Valley League champion Wolves (1-1, 21-6 overall), and it puts themselves in position garner their first title.

Senior setter led Ripon (3-0, 12-5) with 40 assists, five aces, two kills and five digs. Alex Alvarellos thumped 24 kills two go with two aces and two blocks. Middle Trent Olmo contributed 11 kills and three blocks. Marquell Marshall collected 23 digs and served a pair of aces.

Jesse Ochoa keyed the front row with eight blocks. Drake Krippene chipped in with seven kills, while Martin Raygoza had nine digs and six assists.


Lathrop 3, Ceres 0

First-place Lathrop (8-0, 14-4 overall) kick started the second half of its Western Athletic Conference schedule with the 25-13, 25-18, 25-20 sweep.

Alexander Vere dished out 38 assists while serving two aces. Gabriel Fa’ali’i led the attack with 17 kills and eight aces. He also had two blocks. Marco Palomares (two aces, block), Cameron Loyola (block), Justin Alvarez and Pravjit Singh all chipped in four kills.

Charles Reyes paced the defense with 15 digs.


BASEBALL

Manteca 6, Oakdale 3

The Buffaloes (2-1, 12-2-1 overall) picked up an important Valley Oak League win on the road.

A four-run rally in the fourth inning gave Manteca some breathing room, opening up a 5-1 lead.

Jace Quitasol led the assault, going 3 for 4 with a double, a run and an RBI. San Diego-bound Rex Watson (two RBIs), Chris Chavez (run) and Julian Oliveri (two runs, two RBIs) all went 2 for 4.

Cameron Jimenez was the winning pitcher after giving up two runs on two hits and four walks in four innings. He also had two strikeouts. Noah Navarro threw the final 1 2/3 innings for the save.

Jordan Haver (six runs, six hits, four innings) took the loss for Oakdale (3-3, 11-4.)


West 14, Lathrop 3 (5)

The sliding Spartans (6-10) took a fourth straight loss in the non-league defeat in Tracy.

Anthony Gallardo provided some highlights for Lathrop, going 3 for 3 with a double and two runs. Chris Williams drove in a pair of runs.


SOFTBALL

Oakdale 12, East Union 1 (5)

Raegen Everett twirled a two-hitter for the visiting Mustangs (2-0, 8-2 overall), registering 10 strikeouts against two walks.

Sienna Owen and Aubree Gann accounted for East Union’s hits. Mikayla Simpson drove in Caliyah Lopez for the only run for the Lancers (1-1, 9-4)

Presley Barnes highlighted Oakdale’s attack with a solo homer, while Jaelyn Lee hit a double, drove in three runs and scored two.


Ripon 7, Hughson 0

The Indians (1-0, 7-3 overall) began their TVL title defense on the road and got a dominant four-hit shutout from senior pitcher Kharime Caratachea, who struck out 15.

Ripon did much of its damage with a four-run burst in the fifth inning.

Alana Hernandez and Chloe Lautenslager both were 4 for 4 with a double and a run. Nine different Indians contributed with hits, totaling 16.

Grace Leedom got two hits for Hughson (0-1, 6-6).


Mariposa 21, Ripon Christian 7 (5)

Visiting Mariposa (4-0, 5-6) scored the first 14 runs of the Southern Athletic League contest.

Kara Koolhus went 3 for 3 with two runs and RBI for Ripon Christian (2-2, 2-7). Alanna Blanco was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two runs. Ally Brown contributed two RBIs.

Emma Mero-Kuryla powered the Grizzlies with four RBIs, going 4 for 5.


BOYS TENNIS

Sierra 9, Central Catholic 0

Undefeated Brady Alves had one of his most competitive matches of the season, as he staved off Julian Marquez 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 in the No. 1 singles match.

There was little drama the rest of the way for the host Timberwolves, who got singles sweeps from Aston Hillard (6-0, 6-0), David Martin (6-0, 6-1), Hasnain Ali (6-0, 7-5), Oliver Naven (6-0, 6-1) and Santiago Franco (6-1, 6-1).

Sparsh Beedi and Sid Gopendran won the lone doubles match, 6-1, 6-0. Central Catholic forfeited at No. 2 and 3 doubles.


GIRLS SWIMMING

Sierra 119, Oakdale 51

At Manteca High, Keira Brink took first in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 freestyle, while Jennifer Graves doubled in the 100 breaststroke and 500 free.

Both were also part of the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays along with Amy Fadeff and Gianna Ramos. Ramos added additional first-place points in the 100 backstroke.

Lauren Ellis (200 free), Olivia Navarro (50 free) and Bianca Fraser (100 butterfly) each added individual wins. Stephanie Thomason joined Ellis, Fadeff and Navarro on the first-place 400 free.


BOYS SWIMMING

Oakdale 87, Sierra 43

Noah Sandoval won the 200 free for Sierra, while James Danely triumphed in the 500 free.


BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Manteca 80, Oakdale 61

Julian Moncada (100, 200, 400) and Bryson Davis (high jump, long jump, triple jump) both won three individual events and were part of winning relays. Moncada’s 400 time of 51.34 seconds is a personal record.

Christopher King took first in the shot put, while Levi Perez won the discus throw.


GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Oakdale 98, Manteca 43

Rylan Steckler set a personal record in the pole vault, winning with a mark of 9 feet, 8 inches.

Genesis Mailangi won the discus and was the runner-up in the shot put. Jada Ikharo took first in the triple jump.


JV boys volleyball

Ripon 2, Livingston 0

The Indians rolled to the 25-11, 25-7 TVL sweep.

Josiah Aflleje anchored the team with 21 service points, eight aces and nine assists. Cade Fullmer also had nine assists. Gavin Garner netted seven kills, three digs and two aces. Gavin Marlow contributed five kills and two blocks.


Lathrop 2, Ceres 0

Mario Luna anchored Lathrop’s attack, tallying 20 assists and three aces in the 25-21, 25-11 sweep.

Diego Alvarez (six digs) and Elias Medel (two aces, two blocks) crushed six kills apiece. Gurmukh Singh and Richard Truong each had three kills. Josh Ramirez picked up 12 digs and served a pair of aces.


Frosh-soph boys track

Manteca 58, Oakdale 55

Evan White (100, long jump) and William Brown (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) won two events each.

Josiah Martinez (200), Mateo Esparza (400), Mathieu Evans (high jump) and Orlando Escalante (shot put) won one apiece.

The Buffaloes also took the 400 and mile relays.


Oakdale 87, Manteca 34

Alisha James (300 hurdles), Raniya Nelson (shot put) and Gabby Leon (long jump) took first place for Manteca.
