ROUNDUP: Slikker fans 11 in Manteca’s 4-hit shutout of Kimball

Freshman ace Nate Slikker had his way with host Kimball in Manteca’s 13-0 Valley Oak League baseball win on Monday.

Slikker rung up 11 strikeouts in the seven-inning shutout, giving up four hits and no walks. The Buffaloes did not break it open until the final two innings when they scored nine runs.

Manteca (4-2 VOL, 14-3-1 overall) produced 11 hits, but also took advantage of seven walks, two hit batters and two errors.

Jace Quitasol went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs. Cameron Jimenez also had a three-bagger, and Rex Watson plated three runs while also finishing 2 for 4. Preston Smith went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs.

Kimball (0-3, 2-13) visits the Buffaloes on Wednesday.


Oakdale 11, East Union 6

The visiting Mustangs (4-3 VOL, 14-5) scored the first six runs at Agostini Field and took an 11-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning.

Sophomore sensation Landon Schutte pitched the first five innings for Oakdale, striking out 12 while surrendering two unearned runs on one hit and four walks. He was also 4 for 5 at the plate with five RBIs.

East Union freshman Joe Alvarez hammered his first varsity homer, driving in three runs in the seventh inning. Brayden Camara went 2 for 4 with a double.

The Lancers (4-2, 12-5) will look to even the series Wednesday at Oakdale.


Central Catholic 10, Sierra 4

It was a one-run ballgame until Central Catholic (2-2, 8-5) gained separation with a six-run fourth inning.

TP Wentworth led the Raiders, going 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. Collins Schluer went 2 for 3 for Sierra (2-4, 9-7), Troy Morrow mashed a solo homer, and Druw Navarro added a two-run double.

The Timberwolves used four pitchers.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Manteca 3, Kimball 0

Ranked sixth in the Sac-Joaquin Section to start the week, the Buffaloes took a surprising three-set defeat on the road, 21-25, 19-25, 20-25.

Manteca (4-1, 13-3 overall) remains alone at the top of the Valley Oak League with second-place Sierra’s five-game loss to East Union.

Mark Bondoc produced 20 assists, Micah Crawford had six kill and Cedrick Maglinao led the Buffs with passing and serving. The Jaguars improved to 3-3 in the VOL and 11-7 overall.

Manteca 2, Kimball 1

The Buffaloes pulled out the 25-21, 21-25, 15-13 thriller.

Dennen Loueiro led them with eight kills and 10 digs. Logan Romriell produced six kills, three aces and eight digs. Hayden Silva handed out 15 assists to go with four digs.
