Sierra rolls to tourney semifinal

Yasmin Ballew tallied four first-half goals Friday for Sierra and finished with five in an 8-0 thumping of Riverbank in the second game of group play of the Vern Gebhardt Cup at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.
“We score a few goals in these games today,” Timberwolves coach Manuel Pires said. “Yasmin was pretty good at getting the ball in the net.
“She started hooking up with some new girls on the team.”
Ballew added one more goal in the second half along with goals from Tiana Cello, Mia Guevara, and Leslie Carrilo.
Julissa Pimental and Lola Guevara each had two assists for the Sierra (2-0-1) with Jasmine Loaiza and Jenna Villanueva each adding one assist.
The Timberwolves face Vacaville this morning at 11:30 in a championship semifinal.

Aliyah Guerrero tallied nine saves for the Cougars (1-2).
Weston Ranch faces Riverbank this morning at 10:15 in third-round action.

Sierra 6, Atwater 0
Ballew and Daisy Valencia buried two goals apiece in the tournament opener.
Villanueva and Callie Crain each had one goal for the Timberwolves. Crain had two assists and Ballew one.

Weston Ranch 0
Guerrero had five saves to start the tournament for the Cougars.

RIPON — Ariana Sholton had three goals and two assists to pace the Indians to an opening-round victory.
Aubree Pelon added a goal and an assist with Cindy Alvarez and Devany Dougherty both netting a goal and Deanna Sandoval, Madison Pugh and Kailey Tirejo each chipping in with an assist.
“We played with fantastic possessions,” Ripon coach Nichole Meyers said. “We had a lot of balance between our offense and defense.
“This was a good confidence booster for us.
The Indians (1-1-1) face Escalon in a semifinal game this morning at 11.
