William Story wins 4 events to lift EU to senior-day win over Manteca

 William Story and Ann Story helped the East Union swim teams celebrate senior day in grand fashion with each pocketing four firsts for the Lancers in a 62-44 win over Manteca in the boys and a 92-53 win for the East Union girls.

William Story was on the first-place 200-yard medley relay (2 minutes, 3.24 seconds) and 200 freestyle relay (1:55.70) teams along with winning the 200 individual medley (2:25.67) and 100 freestyle (56.16).

“It was nice to be recognized on senior night,” Story said. “This is my last meet here at East Union so it was special to me.

“I tried my hardest and think I got the best times of the year.”

Other first-place finishers for the Lancers boys were Landon Wolfe (50 free, 27.43), Alex Freeman (100 backstroke, 1:11.28) and Davis Duff (100 breast stroke, 1:25.82).

East Union’s Landon Wolfe lost his goggles in a second-place finish in the boys 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 24.38 seconds.

Ann Story, a sophomore, won the 200 individual medley (2:57.67) and 100 butterfly (1:26.42) and was on the first-place 200 medley relay (2:29.27) and 400 free relay (5:15.76) teams.

“It felt faster than normal,” Ann Story said. “I haven’t won in a while, so winning those races made me feel like I was racing faster than normal.

“It was kind of nice.”

Kylie Barker finished first in the 500 freestyle (7:01.25) for the East Union girls, Jillian Ramirez won the 100 backstroke (1:32.82) and Danica Sanchez won the 100 breast stroke (1:35.38)

Peter Espinoza won the 200 freestyle (2:15.52) and 100 butterfly (1:13.22) for the Buffaloes boys and was on the second-place 200-medley relay (2:18.19) team.

“I PRd in all of my events,” Espinoza said “I feel my performance was better than what it normally is.”

Manteca’s Emily Camara was second in the girls 200-yard individual medley in 3 minutes, 21.49 seconds.
Emily Camara picked up three second-place finishes for the Manteca girls in the 200 medley relay (2:40.40), 100 butterfly (1:41.25) and 500 freestyle (7:39.83) and took third in the 200 individual medley (3:21.49).

“It was a pretty good day,” Camara said. “I did some new things and some things I don’t normally do.

“It was kind of a different day.”

Brandon Nakham was the other first-place finisher for the Manteca boys (500 freestyle, 8:05.27) with Aylin Gutierrez (100 freestyle, 1:11.10; 50 freestyle, 31.96) and Kim Tapia-Moreno (100 freestyle, 2:52.96) winning individual events for the Buffaloes girls.


Sierra girls 117, Kimball 50

Jennifer Graves was part of four first-place finishes for the Timberwolves, who hosted at Manteca High. She won the 200 free and 500 free and helped the 200 medley and 200 free relay teams win.

Bianca Fraser took first in the 100 fly and 100 breast. Keira Brink won the 50 free and was the 100 back runner-up. Gianna Ramos took the 200 IM, and Lauren Ellis the 100 free.

Brink Fraser and Ramos joined Graves on the winning 200 medley relay. Stephanie Thomason, Brink and Ramos were on the 200 free relay.


Kimball boys 85, Sierra 43

Travis Moore led Sierra with a win in the 100 back and third-place finish in the 50 free.

Noah Sandoval took second in both the 50 free and 100 free.


Junior varsity girls

Sierra 100, Kimball NS

Hailey Danel (100 IM, 50 breast) was the lone double winner for Sierra.

Emmie Cruz (50 back), Abigail Garcia (50 fly), Brooke Maldonado (100 free) and Jewells Shinn (50 free) each won one event. The Timberwolves won all three relays.
