Winter wins frosh-soph 200 IM in section finals

Ripon High’s Corey Winter was disqualified in the 100 butterfly but didn’t leave the Sac-Joaquin Section Swim Finals empty handed on Saturday.

The sophomore easily won the frosh-soph 200 individual medley in 1 minute, 59.96 seconds at Tokay High, beating the next fastest competitor by over 2 seconds.

Also shining at the frosh-soph level was Nathaniel Gagnon, who won the consolation heat in the 100 backstroke. His time of 59.26 would have been good for seventh place in the final heat.

Ripon’s boys weren’t done there, as they captured the 200 medley relay frosh-soph title in 1:48.59 while placing second in the 200 freestyle relay consolation race in 1:36.86.

Ripon’s Emma Lewis placed seventh in both the 50 and 100 free frosh-soph races, and Jennelle Macedo of East Union ended up sixth (2:23.68). in the 200 IM consolation.

As a team, Ripon placed 23rd overall with 65 points out of the 42 schools that scored.
