Back-to-back homers by Marmolejos, Snyder fuel Fresno win

SACRAMENTO (AP) — Jose Marmolejos and Brandon Snyder connected on back-to-back homers in the second inning to help lead the Fresno Grizzlies to an 11-6 victory over Sacramento River Cats on Friday.

Marmolejos hit a two-run shot before Snyder hit a solo shot as part of a four-run inning that gave the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead.

Following the big inning, the River Cats cut into the deficit in the bottom of the frame when Henry Ramos hit a two-run home run.

The Grizzlies later added three runs in the third and fifth innings and one in the ninth to secure the victory.

Raudy Read homered, tripled and doubled, driving in five runs and scoring a pair in the win. Yadiel Hernandez doubled three times and singled, scoring four runs.

Fresno starter Logan Ondrusek (4-3) picked up the win despite allowing three runs over 5 1/3 innings. Opposing starter Yoanys Quiala (4-5) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game after a rough outing in which he allowed 10 runs and 11 hits over 4 1/3 innings.


Storm 7, Nuts 4

MODESTO (AP) — Jack Suwinski hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning, leading the Lake Elsinore Storm to a 7-4 win over the Modesto Nuts on Friday.

The home run by Suwinski scored Olivier Basabe to give the Storm a 6-4 lead.

The Storm tacked on another run in the ninth when Xavier Edwards scored on a wild pitch.

Franklin Van Gurp (1-2) got the win in relief while Kyle Wilcox (2-3) took the loss in the California League game.


JetHawks 5, 

Ports 2

LANCASTER (AP) — Luis Castro hit a run-scoring single in the fifth inning, leading the Lancaster JetHawks to a 5-2 win over the Stockton Ports on Friday.

The single by Castro, part of a two-run inning, gave the JetHawks a 3-2 lead before Ryan Vilade hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning.

The JetHawks tacked on another run in the eighth when Casey Golden hit a solo home run.

Starter Garrett Schilling (6-4) got the win while Will Gilbert (3-1) took the loss in relief in the California League game.


Quakes 4, Giants 0

RANCHO CUCAMONGA (AP) — Josiah Gray allowed just one hit over seven innings, leading the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes over the San Jose Giants in a 4-0 win on Friday.

Gray (7-0) picked up the win after he struck out seven and walked one.

In the bottom of the second, Rancho Cuca. took the lead on a stolen base that scored Niko Hulsizer. The Quakes then added a run in the third and two in the fourth. In the third, Jeren Kendall hit an RBI single, while Marcus Chiu and Brayan Morales both drove in a run in the fourth.
