MODESTO (AP) — Drew Ellis hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, and Luis Silverio tripled and doubled as the Visalia Rawhide defeated the Modesto Nuts 4-1 on Tuesday.

The home run by Ellis capped a three-run inning and gave the Rawhide a 3-0 lead after Daulton Varsho hit a sacrifice fly earlier in the inning.

Modesto answered in the bottom of the inning when Nick Zammarelli hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to two.

The Rawhide tacked on another run in the ninth when Anfernee Grier hit an RBI single, scoring Ellis.

Modesto missed a scoring opportunity in the seventh, when Joe Rizzo flew out with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Visalia starter Jeff Bain (3-1) picked up the win after scattering six hits over five scoreless innings. Opposing starter Ljay Newsome (5-9) took the loss in the California League game after he allowed three runs on just four hits over 5 2/3 innings. Matt Brill retired the side in order for his third save of the season.
