STOCKTON – Logan Qualls and Brody Carabello made a nice pair of bookends for the Manteca-District 67 12-and-under all stars on Sunday. Qualls led off the third inning of the Section 6 consolation contest by blasting a 3-0 pitch over the left-field fence and Carabello ended the inning and the game with a two-run home run to invoke the 15-run mercy rule for a 17-2 consolation win over Amador West-District 15 at Hoover Tyler Little League.
Manteca faces Los Banos-District 73 today at 5:30 p.m. in the consolation final.
Carabello (3 for 3, three RBI, home run, double, four runs) started off an eight-run second being hit by a pitch and scored on a throwing error. Charles Rose (RBI, double, two runs) walked and was singled in by Bode Hiatt. Qualls (3 for 3, three RBI, home run, three runs) singled in Hiatt and along with Xavier Hardiman (two runs) scored on a single by Victor Nuno (3 for 3, double, two runs). Nuno came in on a Blake Scalise groundout and Nuno added an RBI double in the third, scoring Dom Kotta.
Hiatt started on the mound and pitched into the third, giving up three hits and a run, striking out one. Carabello closed out the game, striking out two while giving up a hit and an unearned run.
Amador West’s Braxton Hughart singled in Nolan Nichols in the second inning and after doubling in the third, Miguel Torres came in on a throwing error.
Delta Sunrise 14, Manteca 4
Delta Sunrise-District 8 pulled away with eight runs in the top of the sixth inning Saturday and Manteca could only answer with one in the bottom of the frame to open the tournament.
Trailing 6-0 going into the bottom of the third, Manteca put up two runs in the frame. Hardiman (2 for 3, RBI, run) singled with two outs and came in on a triple by Hiatt (2 for 3, RBI, triple, run). Qualls (2 for 3, RBI, run) singled in Hiatt.
In the fifth inning, Nuno led off with a double and scored on a Hardiman line drive and in the sixth Qualls belted a lead-off double and scored on a single by Rose.
