JACKSON — Ripon recovered from an abysmal second inning Tuesday to make the game respectable but could not dig itself out of a huge hole in a 12-8 loss to Morada in the championship round of Section 6 10U tournament at John Aime Field.

Ripon took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Gavin Cloward came in on a double by Jacob Petersen (3 for 3, home run, two RBI, double) and then the wheels came off the Ripon wagon. Morada put up 11 second-inning runs on just two hits, drawing seven walks and getting hit by a pitch twice along with Ripon committing four errors.

Ripon bounced back somewhat in the third inning with four runs. Cloward doubled in Pete Winters, Elias Sandoval singled in Willem Drost with both Cloward and Sandoval scoring on a Dylan Jasper single.

Ripon loaded the bases with one out in the fourth but could only manage one run when Evan Klein was hit by a pitch, plating Derek Ponce. Petersen caped his monster day at the plate with a two-out home run in the fifth and Ryder Hall followed up with an RBI single to score Lucas Durao and make the score 12-8.

Ripon outhit Morada 11-5 with many more contacts hit hard, but right at a Morada fielder.

The two teams meet again today at 5 p.m. for the championship at John Aime Field.
