RIPON — Ripon Christian looked to its seniors to step up Monday in its 29-24 victory over Escalon, and it was an appropriate time for them to do so being that it was Senior Night.
After the Cougars (1-6 Trans Valley League) scored the first five points of the contest, senior forward Lindsay Hannink answered with the next five to snap Ripon Christian out of its early funk.
Hannink ended up with seven points, seven rebounds and three steals. Senior classmate Kayla Evans did most of her damage on defense, where she picked up a season-high nine steals. Raeline Witt, another senior, added six points and five boards.
Junior post Kelsey Tillema contributed six points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Ripon Christian (4-3, 10-10 overall) hopes to improve its No. 12 Sac-Joaquin Section Division V power rating Thursday when it travels to second-place Hughson.
Ripon 48, Riverbank 29
In Ripon, the Indians (4-3, 10-13) clamped down defensive in the third quarter and used a balanced attack throughout to coast past the Bruins.
Ripon went on an 18-6 third-quarter run while holding the Bruins to no field goals during that stretch.
Jessica Blythe led the way with 11 points, Lauren Fedderson had 10, Skye Dominguez nine and Rachel Rodriguez eight.
