The Manteca Futbol Club’s 05 Rebels White boys soccer team finished second at the Breakers Academy Spring Cup in Sunnyvale over the weekend.
The Rebels defeated Newark Elite (2-0) and Palo Alto Soccer Club (2-1), finishing behind only Star Academy of South San Francisco in the final point standings.
Jorge Reyes led the Rebels in scoring with two goals in three games, while Matthew Kain and Hayden Beier had one goal apiece during tournament play.
Beier set up Kain’s back-post volley against Palo Alto as the Rebels overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit with two goals in the second half.
Minutes later, Beier notched the game-winner with a 30-yard free kick that dipped under the crossbar.
Luis Bucio and Aiden Dolin-Lira split time in the goal. Bucio made a sprawling save to preserve the victory over Palo Alto, while Dolin-Lira kept Star Academy — the tournament’s top-scoring team — scoreless over the final 30 minutes.
