2005: Spinks tanks 14 Of 16 free throws in Lancers hoops win

10 years ago: December 1, 2005 – In its first match of the season, the Sierra High wrestling team faced St.Mary’s High. The Timberwolves came out victorious by a score of 33-29. Many of the SHS wins were by forfeit, but Donnie Berg took a decision in the 152 weight class.

East Union High’s Matt Lloyd (140) snuck in an 18-second fall in the final wrestling match, but visiting Ripon High grabbed the victory, 47-31. Other Lancer pins were by Roger Rodriguez (103), Michael Vinson (125), Michael Thomas (130), David Rosenow (160) and Jose Martinez (189).

Steffen Spinks made 14 of 16 free throws and poured in a game-high 22 points as East Union High routed visiting Ripon Christian High 77-61 in opening-season basketball action on Tuesday. Jordan McDaniel finished with 18 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.

Visiting Ripon High put a 47-28 loss on the host Manteca High girls on Tuesday at Winter Gym. Rachel Hamilton put up 16 points and two steals, while Danielle Wells collected 11 points in the loss.

It was only close in the first quarter as Ripon High eventually cruised to a 57-38 win over the Manteca High boys in the basketball opener on Tuesday. Matt Gomez, a feisty sophomore call-up, had 14 points to lead the Buffaloes.

A 10-point run in the third quarter moved the East Union High girls to a 47-29 win over Ripon Christian High in cage action at Dalben Center on Tuesday. Cristen Gowan paced the Lady Lancers with 10 points.
