Kias Forte: Affordability, gas mileage

When you’re known for elements like affordability, gas mileage, and the best warranty in the business, it isn’t hard to get people to consider what you have to offer when they’re in the market for a new car.

But thanks to the 2010 Forte, Kia – long associated with high gas-mileage commuters and entry-level models – there is something that offers all of that as well as quality features that rival just about every other competitor in the industry.

An independent test of mid-sized sedans concluded that the Forte led the class in horsepower, safety features, standard advanced technology, fuel efficiency, and interior and trunk space. That’s a good start for the car that’s replacing the model that has been one of the best selling that the manufacturer has ever produced.

“One of the things that people are noticing is that style has really come up on these cars,” said Kia County General Manager Dan Espino. “Nowadays people are out there researching their vehicles before they leave to come out to the lot and they know what they’re looking for, and the Forte has those features and is attracting those buyers.”

While the sleek appearance of the Forte makes it look like the trunk was sacrificed for the rear legroom that it proudly boasts, the trunk actually holds more cargo than any other model in its class. That’s a nice little check mark to add to a list that includes things like heated front seats, a power sunroof, and a 60/40 split folding rear seat that allows you to access that spacious trunk.

For those looking for the entertainment portion of the vehicle, the Forte includes an available auxiliary jack for whatever MP3 player the driver wants to plug in as well as a Sirius Satellite Radio Package that displays the channel as well as the song on the dashboard. And making phone calls has never been safer thanks to built-in Bluetooth.

But all of those fun features don’t mean that you have to sacrifice anything. While Kia still maintains the 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty and the 5-year, 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, it also includes class leading safety features like electronic brake force distribution that helps keep the vehicle in control when combined with the brake assist system.

An available 2.4-liter SX model that includes sport tuned suspension gives thrill seekers a chance to hug the corners a little tighter with their new wheels.

“Kia has always been known as an affordable vehicle, but what’s important about the Forte is that you’re getting quality and the features that you’d expect in other models,” Espino said. “It’s a car that has just about everything for somebody.”
