Manteca plans garden tour for May 14

An expansive garden with a Japanese theme and a garden that illustrates how green thumbs with physical limitations can still enjoy their hobby are two of the six that are being featured in the 2011 Manteca Garden Tour.

It’s easy to remember the date – May 14 – which is the Saturday after Mother’s Day weekend.

This year’s tour offering is sort of gardening redux, with some of those in the itinerary doing an encore or a return engagement and looking even better than before with different palette flavors and landscaping themes.

Two of the featured home gardens are located south of the Highway 120 Bypass. One of them will be the last in the itinerary and will play host to the end-of-tour refreshments under towering redwoods. Plans are also under way to have a “mini artists fair” featuring the works of some Manteca Artists Guild members.

Tickets are still $15 apiece and will be available for purchase in mid-April, said Larson who is co-chairing the garden tour with club vice president Rita Canales.
