Two teens were struck with bullets in a drive-by shooting Friday shortly after 2 p.m. near the heart of downtown.
Manteca Police said the shooting victims were among a group of four teen boys walking east on Mikesell Street behind Kelley Brothers Brewing Co. toward Grant Street.
Witnesses said a purple two- or four-door sedan that was either a Saturn or an Acura was driving by slowly westbound when one of the occupants reached out the window with a gun and started firing before driving off.
One 18-year-old was hit in the shoulder while a 16-year-old was struck in the arm. There was also an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old that were not hit.
The victims ran to the nearby Financial Center Credit Union and Kelley Brothers where employees called 9-1-1.
The 18-year-old refused treatment while the 16-year-old was transported to San Joaquin County Hospital. Neither had life threatening wounds according to police.
Police spokesman Rex Osborn noted the department’s gang unit is investigating the shooting.
