Reusing water softened with salt can be deadly for plants

Speaking of droughts, several readers have indicated it is important for some agency — perhaps a municipal water department — to come up with information to advise people on what water savings might actually be detrimental.

One example pointed out is repurposing bath shower, or sink water in a home that uses a water softener that employs salt.

Salt when applied in sufficient quantity will ultimately kill plants and render soil sterile.
