LATHROP - A child in a restraint device and the driver of a northbound 2007 Toyota were both injured in a spectacular freeway crash at about 1:30 Friday afternoon on Interstate 5 just north of Lathrop Road.

The CHP reported the car was traveling in the number two lane at an estimated 65 to 70 miles an hour.  For an unknown reason the motorist turned to the left and caused the vehicle to run off the roadway and into the center median, colliding with the concrete barrier.

Officers said the car cleared the barrier and landed on its wheels in the number one and number two lanes of southbound I-5 coming to rest facing south.  The driver was wearing her seat belt, but sustained major injures as a result of the collision, according to the CHP.

The child reportedly sustained moderate injuries riding in the passenger seat of the vehicle.  Both were listed as being from Stockton.
