City, schools partner over meeting location

RIPON – The Ripon City Council could make it official Tuesday by allowing Ripon Unified use of the Council Chambers.

The school board agreed last week to a three-month trial period to conduct meetings at the Ripon City Hall facility.

Council could do likewise by granting the RUSD request – included is the June 13, July 11 and Aug. 8 school board meetings – at the 7 p.m. open session at City Hall, 259 N. Wilma.

Trustees are looking forward to use of the technology and other amenities at City Hall after being limited at the Ripon High Multi-Purpose Room, their place of business for the past years.

Both agencies, in addition, are hopeful that sharing of the same facility could be a positive step towards expanding their relationship.

Other agenda items include:

• Council amending the Ripon Municipal Code, in a first reading and introduction, to allow for seasonal temporary uses such as Christmas tree lots, pumpkin patches, and outdoor Christmas holiday décor booths.

• Elected officials determining which agency is responsible to provide insurance for the Fourth of July fireworks show.

• Council appointing John Heida as an alternate voting member on the Ripon Planning Commission.
