The fatally injured motorcycle rider in a Thursday night collision on Yosemite Avenue at El Portal Avenue was Lewis Ehles, 22, of Stockton, according to police.

Manteca public information officer Jason Hensley released the victim's name Friday morning. Ehles was pronounced dead on arrival at Kaiser Hospital in Manteca following the 7:10 p.m. crash where he was thrown from his motorcycle after a pickup truck reportedly pulled out of El Portal Avenue from the south directly into his path.

Police are continuing in their search for a cobalt blue 2000 extended cab Dodge Dakota whose driver was allegedly responsible to the motorcyclist's death. It has damage to its left rear quarter panel and a flattened left rear tire.

As officers were investigating the scene Thursday night a 1994 Chevy S10 reportedly drove past emergency vehicles with their lights flashing and ripped through the yellow crime scene tape - stopping in the middle of the crime scene, Hensley said.

The officer added that the pickup truck came within feet of striking the investigating officers.

The 28-year-old driver, Brandon Tolbert, of Manteca was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked at the Manteca Police Department and released after he had become sober, police said
