Convicted drug criminals are making it easier for Manteca Police to do their job.

The City Council Tuesday authorized spending $2,110 from the General Fund Asset Seizures Reserve to purchase technology that will allow officers to examine the contents of cell phones that are taken into evidence in criminal cases.

The Cellbrite Logical/Physical Mobile Forensic Solution device allows:

• physical extraction of existing, hidden, and deleted data

• state-of-the-art decoding and reporting of data including call logs, videos, images, deleted data, global positioning system fixes, and more.

• user password extraction

• automatic pin-out recognition

• bypassing of the user lock code

California allows law enforcement agencies to seize assets connected with the illegal sale of drugs. If a conviction is obtained, the assets are forfeited and given to the arresting law enforcement agency to help purchase equipment for police work.
