The Grinch struck sometime early Thursday morning.
Yard decoration thieves — who are turning into annual scrooges in Manteca — struck a home on Hastings Drive in the Chadwick Square neighborhood in northwest Manteca sometime between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m.
The Grinch’s cohorts swiped several inflatables — worth about $500 — from the Tilley family yard.
One of them was fairly unusual — a reindeer barn with Santa.
“I’m hoping someone might spot it newly appearing in a yard over the next day or two,” noted Linda Tilley. “As president of Manteca Junior Women’s Club, I try hard to ensure that needy Manteca families get help at Christmas, and throughout the year. I hope someone is proud that they have taken the sparkle out of my family’s enjoyment of the season.”

In past years thieves have made off with handmade wood lawn decorations on Ligget Court and wiped out many of the festive decorations in yards at several Mission Ridge Drive homes.
Homeowners in impacted areas have resorted to using chains and locks to secure decorations.
In the past, Manteca Police have been able to catch some lawn decoration thieves because citizens after reading about the incidents have been able to recall seeing pick-up trucks on streets near the theft sites with the decorations in them.
