A 42-year-old woman sustained head injuries after being struck Monday evening in the 100 block of Pestana Avenue in East Manteca by a hit-and-run driver.

Manteca Police Traffic Officer Patrick Danipour said the woman was struck at 9:50 p.m. The driver of the vehicle did stop and went back and checked on the victim, but when he learned police were being called he fled the area.   The woman was transported to a local hospital with head injuries.  She is expected to recover from the incident.

The suspect was described as a white male, 40 to 50 years old with dark hair.  This suspect is described as being 5-foot-10 or 5-11 with a large belly.  The vehicle was a white Chevrolet S-10 from 1990 to 1995.  The tailgate where it says Chevrolet had an after-factory black trim around the wording.  The truck also had tires and rims that extended outside of the wheel well by several inches.   There would be damage to the front of the pickup.

South County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 cash reward leading to the identity of the suspect. You can leave an anonymous tip at 823-4636
