TRACK & FIELD: Grady, Mailangi win SJS titles in Division III meet

 Sierra’s Anthony Grady and Genesis Mailangi of Manteca each took first place with personal-record marks in field events during the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Trials held Tuesday at Vacaville High.

The local duo also qualified for the SJS Masters meet.

Grady won the boys triple jump at 44 feet, 7 inches, while Mailangi captured the girls shot put title at 38-07. Manteca’s Jada Ikharo and the Sierra boys 4x800 are also headed for Masters.

Ikharo placed sixth in the girls triple jump with a mark of 35-01. Sierra’s 4x800 — Tristan Crowe, Christian Gonzalez, Landen Nabb, Ernesto Pacheco — clocked the runner-up time of 8 minutes, 19.68 seconds.

The rest of the field events will take place during the finals Thursday back at Vacaville. The top eight finishers in track events advance to the finals. Top-six placers plus at-large qualifiers move on to Masters next week, May 17-18 at Davis Sr. High.

Sprinters and hurdlers highlighted local competitors in the track trials with the Manteca boys tandem of Julian Moncada and Jayden Scarver leading the way.

Moncada turned in the top times in the 100 (wind-aided 10.62) and 200 (22.07), while Scarver is seeded second for the 200 final (22.40) and first for the 400 (49.82). Isaiah Arechiga and Dario Rodriguez join Moncada and Scarver on the second-seeded 4x400 (3:27.58).

East Union’s 4x100 of J.P. Abrew, Jackson Fay, Anthony Morales and Cesar Salinas blazed to the top time of 42.51. Fay is also fourth in the 100 with a wind-aided 10.80.

Sierra’s Abigail Chapman set a personal record in the 300 hurdles, taking second with a 46.07. Alexandra Chapman is seventh in the 100 hurdles in 15.70. The twin sisters are also part of the

seventh-seeded mile relay that includes Janessa Barnes and Aileen Montero.
