Inmate injures two correctional officers at jail

FRENCH CAMP – Two San Joaquin County Correctional Officers suffered minor injuries while trying to physically subdue a combative inmate at San Joaquin County Jail Tuesday morning.

The incident happened in the booking area of the county jail shortly before the noon hour. According to Sheriff’s report regarding the incident, the 25-year-old white male inmate assaulted the two correctional officers when they tried to subdue him after he turned combative and refused to comply.

The inmate, Lewis Alexander III, reportedly sustained minor injuries during the incident and was taken to the San Joaquin County General Hospital for treatment and clearance for booking.

The two Correctional Officers declined any medical treatment for their minor injuries.

Alexander was initially arrested by the  California Highway Patrol for driving under the influence (DUI) and was transported to the county jail for booking.

Additional charges were placed on Alexander III arising from the incident at the county jail which injured the two correctional officers – two counts of battery on Custodial Personnel.
