Rene Vargas Estrada

Rene Vargas Estrada, 44, of Manteca has been identified by police as the alleged driver of a pickup truck that was involved in a fatal hit and run accident with a motorcycle on Yosemite Avenue at El Portal Avenue the evening of Oct. 27.

Officers located the blue 2000 Dakota pickup truck Tuesday afternoon parked in a garage in the 1600 block of Ginger Place shortly after 3 p.m.  The vehicle had damage to its left rear quarter panel and back door when it was pulled out of the family garage to be impounded.

Investigators were told by family members that Estrada had parked the truck in the garage the night of the crash and hadn’t been seen since – not knowing just where he might have gone.

Police said Estrada may have fled to Mexico, noting that he also may still be in the greater Manteca area.  The victim of the collision in his 20s was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at Kaiser Hospital in Manteca, police said.
