A 56-year-old Manteca man was robbed at knife point during the noon hour Thursday as he was leaving the Mexican Market in the 200 block of East Yosemite Avenue after he had paid a utility bill at the store.

Patrolman Armen Avakian said as the victim walked up to his car two Hispanic adults approached him and one asked for a cigarette.  He said that he doesn’t smoke and turned to get into his car when the man grabbed him and put a knife into his back while ordering him to give him his money in Spanish.

The officer said the man told him that the suspect began feeling the back of his pants until he located his wallet and pulled it out.  A second individual stood by and watched the assault, police said.

The victim said the pair ran north on Grant Street and disappeared.  Taken was $680 in cash, a driver’s license, an ATM card and a Mexican ID card, officers said.

The suspect was described as being between 20 and 30 years old, standing about 5-foot-11 and weighing about 195 pounds, black hair.  He was reportedly wearing a black sweat shirt and blue jeans.
