The BBVA Compass Bank, formerly Guarantee Bank, at 201 North Main Streets was the victim of a “bank takeover” shortly after 10 a.m. Monday morning.
Police said two black males in their mid-20s to early 30s – wearing wigs – entered the bank with eight employees and one customer present. They reportedly ordered the staff over to one side of the bank as one jumped the counter with a semi-automatic hand gun that he put to an employee’s head and pulled a necklace from the neck of another.
Officers said they made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and ran northward up the alley. A witness said they then ran between buildings onto Maple Avenue and disappeared.
A police chaplain was called to aid one of the female workers at the bank.
