Two injured after being run over during dispute

LATHROP – Three Lathrop residents were rushed to San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp early Sunday morning for treatment of various injuries.

Two of the victims sustained the injuries after being run over by a vehicle driven by one of two suspects arrested in the incident which happened in the 14000 block of Avon Street in the Lathrop Acres area of Lathrop.

The third victim suffered a gunshot wound. All three victims, who were not identified, are expected to survive, according to police reports. The first victim was described as a 36-year-old Hispanic male, the second is a white male aged 25, and the third is a 27-year-old male who is also Hispanic.

Booked at the San Joaquin County Jail on felony assault charges were John Madrigal, a 27-year-old Hispanic male who fired the shotgun and booked for two counts, and Robert Burns, a 64-year-old white male who was the driver of the vehicle and is facing one felony charge.

According to the report pieced together by investigators, Lathrop deputies responded at 3 a.m. Sunday to a report of someone being shot at the 14000 block of Avon Street in the Lathrop Acres area of the city on the north side of Lathrop Road between North Harlan Road and the Woodfield Park.

After arriving at the scene, and based on their preliminary investigation, police determined the disturbance started in front of a residence on Avon Street when an individual ran over two people who suffered serious injuries. Another individual then came out of a residence in the area and fired a shotgun at the vehicle.

By the time the deputies arrived at the scene, all three victims have been taken by private vehicles to the San Joaquin General Hospital.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
