Two boys – ages 12 and 13 – believed to be Serrano gang members were reportedly lying in wait as a Shasta School eighth grader walked home from school Monday afternoon at about 3:30 p.m.

The white victim, described as a Norteno want-to-be, was shot four times with a pellet gun.  One pellet lodged in his face while the others hit his shoulder and his chest during the assault at Powers Avenue and Palomino Street.

Parents who witnessed the shooting followed the suspects to Alameda and Mylnar streets where Manteca Police detained the two boys.  They were cited for disturbing the pace, assault and conspiracy, police said, and then released to their parents.  One is a student at Sierra High School and the other is an eighth grader at Veritas School, officers  said.

The gun was reportedly an eight-shot using 4.5 millimeter pellets.
