LODI - Delta College Fine Arts Department presents the Delta Choral and Guitar Winter Concert, performed by Delta Singers, Delta Concert Choir and Delta College Guitar Ensemble on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the St. John’s Church in Lodi.

“This year’s concert features a popular work,” choral director, Scott Bowen said. “John Rutter’s ‘Gloria’ for choir, brass ensemble, percussion and organ. This is highly enjoyable, memorable music that audiences love.”

The concert will perform pieces that combine the ensemble as well as share some of the same musicians.

“Guitar majors at Delta are required to sing in the choir” Bowen said. “So it’s a good fit.”

The Delta Concert Choir is a large ensemble that is open to all Delta College students, while the Delta Singers is a select few that perform choral music written for the small vocal ensemble.

“The 24-voice select Delta Singers will open the concert with an eclectic program of both sacred and secular music as well as holiday favorites.”

The guitar ensemble, directed by Travis Silvers, is a 16-member group that specializes in sight reading and public performances. “This is the first time we have prepared holiday pieces,” Silver said. “So it will be fun. I chose to do some pieces that everybody knows; the music more accessible and engaging when the audience is familiar with the song. I think people will enjoy seeing our talented musicians. It’s great exposure demonstrating what we do here at Delta College.”
