Chez Shari restaurant in the upper room of the Manteca Golf Course clubhouse was a sea of bright red and purple pajamas, with a scattering of large pink plumes and feather boas dripping with sparkling blings big and small.

The guests were dressed to the nines, but this was no formal party. The guests, after all, were in their dreamland finery complete with onesies, fluffy Elmo slippers paired with matching satin and fleece pajamas. About the only ones in regular costumes were the special guests, Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The Thursday event was the annual Christmas with Santa Pajama Party hosted by the Diamond Lil’s Red Hat Society of Manteca. It was a festive event as usual, but Thursday’s party was underlined by a philanthropic purpose. Santa and Mrs. Claus are members of a national organization called Santa’s Charities; “you can find out more about them and what they do by checking out their web site at www.santascharities.org,” said Diamond Lil’s Vice Queen of Bling Joan Collins.

While Santa and Mrs. Claus patiently posed for the obligatory Christmas Santa pictures with the Red Hat Society members in pajamas in Chez Shari’s Godfather Room, the bigger reason for their appearance was to advertise the upcoming Santa’s Charities fund-raiser, Breakfast with Santa & Mrs. Claus on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Tracy Masonic Hall, 1601 N. Tracy Blvd. in Tracy. Donation is $7 per person; children age 2 and younger are admitted free of charge. Tickets will include the meal – pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, juice, milk, coffee or tea. There will be crafts, face painting and pictures with Santa & Mrs. Claus. Advance reservations are requested by calling (209) 835-1626 or (209) 835-7688. Proceeds benefit Santa’s Charities 2010 Project, Happy Talkers, and the School of Imagination in Dublin, Calif.

Manteca’s Diamond Lil’s also played host on Thursday to other Red Hat Society members from Lodi, Acampo and Stockton who attended the breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
