Presenting health care information to riders on returning Altamont Commuter Express trains is just one of the many reasons Doctors Hospital of Manteca received the Tenet Corporation’s Circle of Excellence award for their levels of service, quality and operational performance.

Eric McMurtrey, director of marketing for the hospital, has been aboard the train several times handing out packets of medical information to the riders in addition to taking a speaker on board.

ACE  reserved  a double-decker rail car on one of their runs for a mini-seminar presentation by hospital medical social worker Crista Moore speaking on the how to handle stress in the work place.  ACE announced the program to their riders in advance of the hospital presentation for commuters on their ride home.

Also along on the trip was hospital administrator Mark Lisa, Debbie Aventi, R.N., nurse navigator for the breast health program, and marketing administrative assistant Kathy McKinsey.  Aventi was available as a resource for anyone wanting to ask her particular questions on breast health.

McKinsey and McMurtrey have also met passengers getting off and onto the ACE trains on several occasions at different locations.   One was at the Lathrop-Manteca station at 3 a.m. as commuters were leaving for work over the Altamont Pass.

On May 19 they will be greeting passengers as they get off the train in Tracy giving them informational medical packages related to the available health care in Manteca.
Doctors Hospital of Manteca is one of 50 hospitals in the Tenet system.

“We are one of three to receive the award out of 12 in the state,” Mark Lisa stated. The excellence award was presented for years 2007 and 2009 for previous year’s team efforts.

“As far as Doctors Hospital goes – this is about team,” Lisa said.

He added that the Manteca hospital has recently completed some $3 million in seismic upgrades as mandated by the State of California.

In determining the optimum operation of their hospitals, Tenet uses key metrics to evaluate their facilities in the areas of patient, physician and employee satisfaction scores as well as clinical quality and financial performance.

“The hard work, determination and commitment of the employees at Doctors Hospital of Manteca made 2008 a great year for the hospital,” said Stephen Newman, M.D., Tenet’s chief operating officer.  “I’m proud of everything that they’ve accomplished and am thrilled to honor them with Tenet’s Circle of Excellence Award.”

Lisa added, “it’s because of our wonderful nurses, physicians and staff that we’ve been able to grow our hospital to best meet the needs of our community.  It’s their dedication to delivering high quality care that earned us this honor, and for that, I want to thank and congratulate them.”

Lisa said the staff will be hosted to a barbecue at the hospital on May 13 – as part of Hospital Week – for their repeated achievements in excellent medical care.
