Donations, volunteers sought for community Thanksgiving dinner

Sunrise Kiwanis and Manteca Rotary are joining forces with the support of the Manteca Police Officers Association to once again serve 2,000 turkey dinners on Thanksgiving.
The benefactors include those who would be spending the holiday alone, the homeless, struggling families, and  others. Most will be fed at the Mountain Mike’s Pizza at Louise Avenue and Main Street in Manteca on Thanksgiving from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shut-ins will have meals delivered.
Church groups or locations that pre-order meals for their families in need will be able to drive through and pick up those meals.  The meals are limited, and based on a first come, first serve basis.
Kiwanis member Carol Davis noted the fifth annual Thanksgiving in Manteca is “for those in our community that otherwise would not have a traditional Thanksgiving meal or someone to share this day with.”
Manteca Sunrise Kiwanis and Manteca Noon Rotary are looking for sponsors and /or donations for this event.
Any individuals or groups interested should contact Carol Davis (209) 824.5600. Any groups interested in reserving dinners, should contact Jeff Liotard at (209) 823.1166.
Last year the service clubs went through 65 turkeys plus the traditional trimmings of potatoes, vegetables, stuffing and pie in feeding 2,000 people.
